I probably owe you a blog but...

I have been sick and I am guessing you don't want me to blog all about that, so I am sort of stuck for things to say. I am thinking instead I will put some pictures on here and talk about something from weeks past.
A while back I managed to get a lovely behind the scenes tour of the amphibians and reptiles collection at the museum - the whole collection is being relocated soon and will no longer be in the Natural History Museum building so I felt quite fortunate to see it when I did.

Anyway... anyone seen 'Snakes on a plane?' Morgan Freeman has a classic line involving mothers, a four letter expletive beginning with f and snakes on a pl ane - the same phrase applies here but instead the snakes are all in jars. Lots of jars......

FINISHED

So I managed to finish the blanket before little Evie's due date - OK OK so she is over a week old but my timing was clearly perfect with the date given. Now to start all the holiday projects I have in mind.

Thanksgiving Babies

Right, I kept meaning to sit down and write this yesterday (and the day before, and the day before that) but something always seems to take precedence. Yesterday my knitting took up all my attention. I have been making a baby blanket for Cari and, alas, last week the baby decided to arrive before I finished. Last Monday night I got a call from Cari and Ben telling me to come on over as they felt the little one was on her way - I was designated babysitter for Timmy (who is 2). Tuesday was a day full of Thomas (choo, choo), Caillou (whine, whine - you will understand this if you have ever watched the cartoon Caillou, he is a whiny little boy), and hide and seek. Grandma arrived from Michigan around 3pm and just a few hours later little Evelyn (Evie) Kerensa Bussey appeared. Anyone who knows Cari and Ben can see the full story on Cari's blog.

Wednesday John and I were leaving for PA as Thursday was Thanksgiving and his family had kindly invited me to celebrate it with them. I cheekily stopped by the hospital on the way to John's to get some little newborn cuddles from little Evie. She is, quite simply put, adorable.

Thanksgiving was a lot of fun too - John's Granddad is hilarious and his Grandma prepared a wonderful Thanksgiving meal for us. I do love me some turkey and fixings. Thanksgiving food is sort of like British Christmas fare only with a few definite exceptions - the green bean casserole, mac and cheese, and sweet potatoes are not something you would find on our table at home. All very yummy though. Mmmmmm. John's family live near Hershey (as in where Hershey chocolate is made) and so we made a trip to Chocolate World - I felt it was pretty much required, how can one be that close to a world of chocolate and not go visit? The answer is that one can't! I tried to be restrained in my purchases but the Starbucks chocolate I did buy has been calling my name daily ever since. I am impressed that chocolate is able to pronounce my name since it seems half the population struggles.

Well it is time for breakfast.... and coffee... my days always start with coffee, otherwise they never really start they just stagnate.

Weekend

Yesterday I did nothing - well as close to nothing as one can do whilst still spending hours awake. I am not one that does nothing very often and you know what.... IT WAS FABULOUS. John (the man) and I just watched BBC America and saw the ending of about 5 movies but no beginnings (just how it seemed to work out).

Other good things about the weekend:

I found Lebkuchen in the supermarket and have been reveling in their gingerbready goodness ever since (if you are not acquainted with Lebkuchen then google the term and you shalt learn).

John's passport arrived! HUZZAH! We are now all ready to go to England in a few weeks. very exciting.

We went to a pre-thanksgiving meal and had lots of yummy food (John a little bit too much) and even more wonderful company.

I am sure there was more goodness but I am waaaaay behind on a knitting project for a baby that is threatening to arrive any day (and mother to be is hoping it is sooner rather than later) and so I must pick up the needles once more and knit, knit, knit.

Depodging tool of choice

This is my nice little exercise machine (of sorts). I would love to say it is new but I have had it a few months now but thanks to the broken foot it has sat gathering dust. It actually arrived the day I was put into my cast, talk about timing! Anyway I have started to use it this weekend and it is hitting home just how out of shape I am... which is VERY, in case you were wondering. For those of you who are looking at the picture and wondering what the heck it is, it is a baby elliptical thing. I wanted an elliptical machine but realised in my flat I could really have a sofa or a full-size elliptical - see previous post for my love of the sofa. This fits in perfectly. It sits next to the sofa and taunts me as I sit in comfort on my ever expanding rear end - eventually to shut it up I get on it for a bit. The upside to this is that it is getting bloody cold in my flat and this is a good way to warm up - alas the wearing 5 jumpers approach just makes it hard to maneuver myself around (mitchelin man style - do they have the mitchelin man in America? Hmmmmm).

Weekend thoughts

1. I like men in uniform - particularly my man who was wearing his lovely navy winter blues this morning (he has drill this weekend).

2. The leaf situation outside is reaching near crisis point. I think I may wake up tomorrow to find I cannot get out of the door as the house will be buried. However, the leaf collectors are supposed to come this week (but they are quite elusive little beggars) so I think the Joness (my landlords who live in the main house, I am in a basement apartment) may try and fight the good fight to get all the leaves on the curb over the weekend.

3. I need to get off the sofa and do some cooking. I am trying to take my lunches into work now (I have been a bit bad since moving here about eating well). I need to lose some podge, de-podging is a priority.

4. My sofa is comfortable.

5. Oooh laundry is done... dryer here I come.

First post block

So I have been meaning to write the first post here for a while, but for some reason I have been unable to - I have even not written other blog entries because of it. Urgh. Today I am going to get over this imaginary hump and in the words of Nike advertising 'just do it.' Let us go over the most obvious point here:

MY BLOG HAS MOVED!!!!!!

Why oh why have you moved your blog Rhiannon, some of you may ask. Well the answer is relatively simple. The old blog format was great in that I had ultimate control over it. Mwu-ha-ha!!!!! However, it was taking forever to upload and had to be written from my laptop and both of these factors were a bit of a pain and made me less inclined to update. Moving it here means I can update wherever I want (well clearly I still need a computer, it is not telepathy-enabled ... yet) and that I no longer have to password it - before it was an offshoot of the work website and I felt that it was best.

You will note that there are blog entries prior to this - I am slowly but surely uploading all old blog entries, including the old blogsome one and then I will move onto my dotmac one. Therefore, all my blogs should eventually be here in one place. This has to be a gradual process because I tried to upload lots and lots all in one and google thought I was a spammer and it took me a while to convince them I am not... well that and uploading lots in one go takes effort and I am a lazy so and so.

Anyway.... welcome. Enjoy. All that good stuff....
